Lone Star Wrestling Announces First Show, "King of the Canvas" concept

Thomas Cox, Co-President and Chairman of Lone Star Wrestling in Corpus Christi, has announced the first show date for the promotion.

The show will occur on February 21, 2009 and will hail from the Molina Neighborhood Center on the corner of Old Brownsville and Horne Roads, the former home of United Championship Wrestling.

"We wanted to bring Lone Star Wrestling to a small venue that would only hold a maximum of about 1,000 people, to signify the humble beginnings of any wrestling promotion," said Cox. "We will be starting traditions that night, and we will be evaluating talent for our championship rankings."

When asked what kind of talent the Lone Star Wrestling roster boasts, Cox answered with a smile. "LSW's roster will boast the best talent from around the state of Texas, starting with the talent from Corpus Christi. We also have talent coming in from Houston and San Antonio for this first show. Names like 'Party Boy' Bacon Johnson, The Sixth Street Sinners, Quinten Allen, Zen Zen, and the return of a former Corpus Christi champion, as well as many more will be what LSW boasts."

The show will be unique as well, as Cox mentions. "The first LSW show is being called, 'The King of the Canvas'. We will begin with a 13-man over-the-top battle royal to kick off LSW's entry into the competition in Corpus Christi. The mystery number 13 entrant will be the aforementioned returning champion. The battle royal will continue until only four men are left in the ring. Those four men will come back later in the night in the main event to battle it out in a double elimination round robin match until one man, the 'King of the Canvas', is left standing. The other competitors not in the main event will be put into other matches during the night."

There are some competitors on the LSW roster who have already gone down with injuries training for Lone Star Wrestling. "We have two wrestlers on the roster who will not be able to compete on the first show, those being Mr. Prestigious and 'Big' John Tubbz, who is returning to the Corpus Christi scene after a few years of not being in competition. Tubbz injured his ribs while training, and Mr. Prestigious injured his knee and both men will be out for a couple months," explained Cox.

LSW has already signed some key positions in the broadcasting division of the company. Rob Boscamp, current Managing Editor of the Island Waves Student Newspaper on the campus of TAMUCC, has been training his voice under Cox and has signed on to provide play-by-play commentary for all LSW events. The color commentary position has yet to be filled. Directing the production of all LSW events will be Justin Shirley, currently working in the equipment division with the Corpus Christi Icerays hockey team. The cameraperson positions have yet to be filled. LSW's senior referee position has been filled by referee Marty Green, with referee Johnny Jay serving as a secondary referee. Cox is expressing interest in hiring another referee, if possible.

Lone Star Wrestling is an independent wrestling company based in Corpus Christi, Texas. LSW is available for any function and/or fundraising opportunity. LSW can be reached at lonestar.wrestling@yahoo.com.

Lone Star Wrestling Sets Down in the Sparkling City

Get ready, Corpus Christi! A new wave of excitement is about to hit the Sparkling City by the Sea! Lone Star Wrestling officially announces it's existence in Corpus Christi.

"Lone Star Wrestling is the 'check your attitude at the door' wrestling promotion. There are hostilities between Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance and Texas Xtreme Wrestling in Corpus, however, wrestlers from both organizations will coexist in Lone Star Wrestling, because their booking woes with either the Galvans or the Greens will be kept in their own separate promotions. LSW is meant to be the 'in-between' promotion, where we can still get together and be friends," says LSW Co-Promoter J. Thomas Cox.

Cox got the idea to start his promotion in the summer of 2008, after witnessing the promotion that brought him into the business crumble to the ground.

"I got the call from Marty Green that he wasn't in the booking committee for United Championship Wrestling anymore and that UCW was dead. The show out at the Corpus Christi Speedway was to be a Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance show. I was scared because I didn't want to be associated with one side or the other, after hearing the horror stories of some of the atrocities that were hurled back and forth back in the day."

So Cox sought out a business partner and started the ball rolling for the opening of LSW. "Jonathan Sosa was the perfect choice for a business partner in LSW. He, too, was tired of the separation of power in Corpus Christi indy wrestling, and wanted a promotion where everyone could come together and still have fun, while at the same time having a quality show. Plus, he was the only one I knew of aside from the Galvans and the Greens that had a wrestling ring," said Cox.

Does Cox see LSW as competition for GCWA and TXW? "No, I don't think so, and I don't think very many others do either. Otherwise, how could we have a card with 'New Style' Ben Galvan and 'Bad Boy' Frankie Frank on the same night?"

So where is LSW at right now? Cox replies, "Right now, LSW is trying to get funding to have our first show. It is my understanding that our ring isn't completed, and is being sent as is. Right now we're just trying to get that issue resolved, along with making sure we are able to pay our guys what they're asking for."

What kind of people will be seen on LSW shows? "A lot of different kinds of people. The LSW fanbase will see the Corpus Christi locals (Ben Galvan, Bacon Johnson, Mr. Prestigious, Frankie Frank, etc.), along with some out-of-towners. Some of those that we are in talks with are Darin Childs & Rachel Summerlyn (San Antonio's ACW promotion), Quinten Allen (San Antonio), the Big Time Playas: Scott McKenzie and Danny Matthews (Denton's XCW promotion), and former Corpus Christi staple Rudy Russo (San Antonio). There's also some people that Corpus hasn't seen in a while that we are looking at bringing back, like Big John Tubbz, El Primo, and our mystery # 15 entrant. More on that later."

Are LSW promoters in talks with any big name people? "A few. I don't want to ruin anything yet, but let's just say that if we sign who we're in talks with, LSW will definitely be much "Too Cool" than the rest."
