Lone Star Wrestling Sets Down in the Sparkling City

Get ready, Corpus Christi! A new wave of excitement is about to hit the Sparkling City by the Sea! Lone Star Wrestling officially announces it's existence in Corpus Christi.

"Lone Star Wrestling is the 'check your attitude at the door' wrestling promotion. There are hostilities between Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance and Texas Xtreme Wrestling in Corpus, however, wrestlers from both organizations will coexist in Lone Star Wrestling, because their booking woes with either the Galvans or the Greens will be kept in their own separate promotions. LSW is meant to be the 'in-between' promotion, where we can still get together and be friends," says LSW Co-Promoter J. Thomas Cox.

Cox got the idea to start his promotion in the summer of 2008, after witnessing the promotion that brought him into the business crumble to the ground.

"I got the call from Marty Green that he wasn't in the booking committee for United Championship Wrestling anymore and that UCW was dead. The show out at the Corpus Christi Speedway was to be a Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance show. I was scared because I didn't want to be associated with one side or the other, after hearing the horror stories of some of the atrocities that were hurled back and forth back in the day."

So Cox sought out a business partner and started the ball rolling for the opening of LSW. "Jonathan Sosa was the perfect choice for a business partner in LSW. He, too, was tired of the separation of power in Corpus Christi indy wrestling, and wanted a promotion where everyone could come together and still have fun, while at the same time having a quality show. Plus, he was the only one I knew of aside from the Galvans and the Greens that had a wrestling ring," said Cox.

Does Cox see LSW as competition for GCWA and TXW? "No, I don't think so, and I don't think very many others do either. Otherwise, how could we have a card with 'New Style' Ben Galvan and 'Bad Boy' Frankie Frank on the same night?"

So where is LSW at right now? Cox replies, "Right now, LSW is trying to get funding to have our first show. It is my understanding that our ring isn't completed, and is being sent as is. Right now we're just trying to get that issue resolved, along with making sure we are able to pay our guys what they're asking for."

What kind of people will be seen on LSW shows? "A lot of different kinds of people. The LSW fanbase will see the Corpus Christi locals (Ben Galvan, Bacon Johnson, Mr. Prestigious, Frankie Frank, etc.), along with some out-of-towners. Some of those that we are in talks with are Darin Childs & Rachel Summerlyn (San Antonio's ACW promotion), Quinten Allen (San Antonio), the Big Time Playas: Scott McKenzie and Danny Matthews (Denton's XCW promotion), and former Corpus Christi staple Rudy Russo (San Antonio). There's also some people that Corpus hasn't seen in a while that we are looking at bringing back, like Big John Tubbz, El Primo, and our mystery # 15 entrant. More on that later."

Are LSW promoters in talks with any big name people? "A few. I don't want to ruin anything yet, but let's just say that if we sign who we're in talks with, LSW will definitely be much "Too Cool" than the rest."
